There are some weddings that feel like more than just a celebration of two people. They feel like a gathering of families, cultures, traditions, and generations—and Elena and Michael’s wedding at Lucky Arrow Retreat in Dripping Springs was exactly that.
As a half Nigerian and half American couple, Elena and Michael brought together two cultures in a beautiful celebration surrounded by their closest friends and family. Their wedding was filled with meaningful traditions, incredible style, plenty of dancing, and the kind of energy that makes photographing a wedding so much fun.
And all of it took place at one of the Texas Hill Country’s most unique wedding venues: Lucky Arrow Retreat. Here are some of my favorite photos from the day.

A Summer Wedding at Lucky Arrow Retreat
August in Texas doesn’t exactly make it easy to plan an outdoor wedding.
On Elena and Michael’s wedding day, temperatures climbed to around 100 degrees. Fortunately, Lucky Arrow Retreat has beautiful indoor spaces that made it possible to enjoy the day without letting the Texas heat take over.
The air conditioning was definitely appreciated!
Lucky Arrow Retreat is located just outside Austin in Dripping Springs and offers a unique combination of Hill Country scenery, lodging, and wedding spaces. The property is designed around the idea of bringing everyone together for a full wedding experience rather than simply showing up for a few hours on the wedding day.
For Elena and Michael, it created the perfect setting for a celebration that brought together their families and friends.
Celebrating Nigerian and American Traditions
One of my favorite things about photographing multicultural weddings is seeing how couples incorporate different traditions into one celebration.
Elena and Michael’s Nigerian-American wedding was a wonderful example of that.
There was a beautiful blend of cultures throughout the day, creating a wedding that felt personal to them rather than simply following a traditional wedding formula. The combination of Nigerian heritage and American wedding traditions gave the day its own personality and brought an incredible amount of energy to the celebration.
And, of course, Nigerian weddings are known for their incredible fashion and energy—and Elena and Michael’s wedding certainly didn’t disappoint.
From the details and attire to the dancing and celebration, there were so many moments throughout the day that deserved to be photographed.
Wedding Photography at Lucky Arrow Retreat
Lucky Arrow is a particularly fun venue for wedding photography because there are so many different environments available throughout the property.
The Hill Country setting provides a natural Texas backdrop, while the venue’s indoor spaces offer a completely different look and feel. Lucky Arrow’s current wedding setup includes spaces such as the Overlook, Tree Grove, Sky Terrace, and Event Hall, giving couples options for everything from ceremonies and cocktails to dinner and dancing.
For a photographer, that variety is fantastic.
It means we can create photographs that don’t all look like they were taken in the same place. We can move between portraits, candid moments, family photographs, wedding details, and reception images while giving the gallery plenty of visual variety.
And on a 100-degree August day, having beautiful air-conditioned spaces available makes a huge difference!
The Moments That Matter
While beautiful portraits and wedding details are important, some of my favorite photographs from a wedding are the moments that happen naturally.
A parent seeing their child dressed for the first time.
Friends laughing together during cocktail hour.
Family members who haven’t seen each other in years finally getting together.
A couple sneaking away for a few quiet minutes during the reception.
And then, inevitably, the dance floor filling up.
Those are the photographs that bring you back to the feeling of the wedding day years later.
That’s one of the reasons I approach Lucky Arrow Wedding Photography with a focus on both beautiful portraits and authentic moments. I want couples to have photographs that look amazing, but I also want their gallery to tell the story of what their wedding actually felt like.
A Beautiful Dripping Springs Wedding Venue
Located in the Texas Hill Country just outside Austin, Lucky Arrow Retreat is a unique option for couples who want their wedding and accommodations to feel connected. The property offers on-site lodging and multiple event spaces, allowing couples and their guests to spend more of the wedding weekend together.
That makes Lucky Arrow especially appealing for destination weddings and couples bringing family and friends into Austin from out of town.
It’s also close enough to Austin to be convenient while still feeling like you’ve escaped into the Hill Country.
Congratulations, Elena & Michael!
Elena and Michael’s wedding was a wonderful reminder of what makes weddings so special: two people bringing their families, backgrounds, traditions, and lives together and creating something that is uniquely theirs.
Despite the August heat outside, the celebration inside Lucky Arrow was full of warmth, laughter, emotion, and plenty of energy.
Congratulations, Elena and Michael! It was an honor to photograph your Nigerian-American wedding and preserve these memories for you and your families.
If you’re planning a wedding at Lucky Arrow Retreat, I’d love to help tell your story through timeless, candid, and beautifully crafted wedding photography.
