There are some wedding venues that seem to have been designed specifically with photography in mind, and Hummingbird House in Austin, Texas is one of them. With its lush gardens, tropical greenery, beautiful outdoor spaces, and intimate atmosphere, it provides an incredible setting for wedding photography.
I was honored to photograph Julie and Will’s Hummingbird House wedding, (https://hummingbirdhouseaustin.com/) documenting the moments, emotions, and details that made their celebration uniquely theirs.

A Beautiful Wedding at Hummingbird House
Located just south of Austin in Manchaca, Hummingbird House is known for its beautiful garden setting and lush landscaping. The property feels like a private tropical oasis while still being conveniently located near Austin.
For a wedding photographer, that combination creates so many opportunities. From the gardens and ceremony area to the reception space and the countless little corners throughout the property, there are beautiful backgrounds everywhere you turn.
For Julie and Will, Hummingbird House provided the perfect backdrop for their wedding day.
Wedding Photography at Hummingbird House
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings at Hummingbird House is the variety of photographs that can be created without ever having to leave the property.
The gardens provide a natural setting for romantic portraits, while the architecture and reception spaces offer something completely different. The greenery, flowers, trees, and natural light give the photographs a timeless quality while still making them feel distinctly Austin.
My approach to wedding photography is a combination of documentary photography and creative portraiture. I want to capture the moments as they actually happen—the laughter, hugs, happy tears, excitement, and unexpected moments—while also creating beautiful portraits that you will be proud to display in your home.
That balance is especially important at a venue like Hummingbird House, where there are so many opportunities to create artistic images while still allowing the day to unfold naturally.
Julie & Will’s Wedding Day
A wedding day is about much more than the photographs. It’s about being surrounded by the people who mean the most to you and having the opportunity to celebrate your relationship together.
My goal is to photograph all of those pieces of the day.
That includes the big moments everyone expects to see, such as the ceremony, portraits, and reception, but also the smaller moments that can easily go unnoticed—the look on someone’s face during the ceremony, a quick laugh between friends, a parent watching their child get married, or a quiet moment between the couple.
Those are often the photographs that become the most meaningful years later.
The Gardens at Hummingbird House
Hummingbird House is particularly special for couples who love the idea of getting married surrounded by nature. The venue’s gardens feature lush greenery, tropical plants, flowers, and mature landscaping that create a beautiful backdrop throughout the property.
The garden setting also gives couples plenty of variety when it comes to portraits.
Rather than spending the entire portrait session in one location, we can move through different areas of the property and create a gallery that feels varied and complete. One photograph might be surrounded by greenery, while another has a completely different architectural or garden backdrop.
For an Austin wedding photographer, that’s a dream situation.
Austin Wedding Photography That Feels Like You
Every couple has a different personality, and I don’t believe your wedding photographs should all look exactly the same.
My approach combines candid wedding photography, authentic moments, and carefully crafted portraits. I want you to look at your photographs years from now and remember not only what everything looked like, but what the day actually felt like.
That’s especially important on a wedding day because everything happens so quickly.
You spend months—or sometimes years—planning your wedding, and then suddenly the day is over. The photographs become one of the few tangible ways to return to those moments.
That’s why I take the responsibility of photographing a wedding seriously.
Why Hummingbird House Is So Photogenic
One of the things that makes Hummingbird House such a great wedding venue is the number of different photographic environments available in one location.
The property includes beautiful garden areas for ceremonies and portraits, outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy during the celebration, and an indoor reception space. The venue also has dedicated suites where the wedding party can get ready before the ceremony.
Having so many elements together on one property makes it possible to tell the complete story of a wedding day without spending valuable time traveling between locations.
And from a photography perspective, the gardens provide an incredible amount of visual variety.
Looking for a Hummingbird House Wedding Photographer?
If you’re planning a wedding at Hummingbird House and looking for an Austin wedding photographer, I’d love to hear from you.
I’ve been photographing weddings in Austin and throughout Central Texas since 2007, and my approach is centered around creating photographs that are both beautiful and genuine.
I don’t want your wedding day to feel like a photo shoot. I want you to enjoy your wedding, be present with the people you love, and trust me to recognize and document the moments as they happen.
I’ll step in when a little direction will make a portrait better, and I’ll step back when the real moment is happening in front of me.
That’s the balance I strive for with every wedding.
Congratulations, Julie & Will! Thank you for allowing me to document your Hummingbird House wedding and tell a small part of your story through photographs.
